Hey book nerds! :3 Happy New Years EVE! It's the last day of the year and I just wanted to say thank-you to all of the people who have started following me and have supported me since I started book blogging in September! ^.^ I love you guys. :3 I had a massive reading break before starting reading again in September, so I haven't read hundreds of books this year however I've read a wide variety of different ones. My journey of reading this year has been a great experience and I've tried to branch out in the genres I read. ^.^
There have been some books I've hated..alot! And wanted to smack...
Others, that I've really liked! :)
And of course, the ones that are incredible! So much so, that I'd actually do a little dance... :P
Today's post, of course, is going to be my favourite books of 2012. Not necessarily ones that were published this year, but ones I had the honour of reading this year! :D The books are in no particular order, they're all my favourites of the year and it doesn't mean I like one more than the other. ^.^ Have a great New Year and try not to party too hard! ;)
Favourites Of 2012
Title: The DUFF: Designated, Ugly, Fat, Friend.
Author: Kody Keplinger.
Opinion: I thought this was an incredible book, It was a light and fluffy comtemporary read that I couldn't put down! I loved Bianca's character, she was so fresh and fun to read - she had an edge to her that was incredibly well written. The romance and chemistry between Bianca and Wesley's characters made me swoon.
"Something tells me this isn't about The Scarlet Letter," he said, and even in the dark I knew he was grinning.
This time he met me halfway. His hands tangled in my hair and mine clawed at his forearms. We kissed violently, and my back slammed again the wall. I heard a mop - or maybe a broom - topple over, but my brain barely registered the sound as one of Wesley's hands moved to my hip, holding me closer to him.
Title: The Summoning.
Author: Kelley Armstrong.
Opinion: This is another incredible book I read earlier in the year. I loved Chloe's character, with her shy, awkwardness, but I also loved Derek's character. Derek is dark and brooding, apparently something I find very attractive in characters! I wanted them to get together from the begining. The other two books in this trilogy are just as incredible.
God only knew what she thought we'd been doing. I was pretty sure her imagination had taken her way past the sweet first-kiss stage. To think I'd go from "never been on a date" to "rolling around in the dirt with a stranger"? That was insulting. No, more than insulting. It made me furious.
Did Aunt Lauren know the first thing about me? And if she didn't, who did?
If I was crazy, would I know it? That's what being crazy was, wasn't it? You thought you were fine. Everyone else knew better. Maybe I was crazy.
Author: Kate Avelynn.
Opinion: HOLY CRUMPETS! There was a constant pain in my chest, and as tears streamed from my eyes, it felt like my gut was being wrenched out. The force and emotion behind the writing in this novel made it impossible to hate. The end completely crushed and destroyed me. On multiple occasions throughout this book, I cried - a lot. I also wanted to tear my hair out and run screaming down the road from my frustration at being an emotional wreck.
I have no idea what he sees in me. Strength, he says. Beauty. A big heart. I see none of these things. I see fear, flaws, and a heart so full of blackness I can’t give up my own selfish wants to set him or my brother free. He’s given me a glimpse of what happiness should feel like, so maybe I should be grateful and move on.
I'll always love you and make you happy,
If you will only say the same.
But if you leave me to love another,
You'll regret it all some day.
Author: Lauren Oliver.
Opinion: Such an incredible book. I fell in love with it not far into the book. The entire plot and world building/structure is incredible and Lena's character was amazing. I thought her relationship with Alex was beautiful and had that 'spark' that people look for in real-life relationships. I found it incredibly hard to put this book down when I was reading it - I had to try and pace myself!
Love, the deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don't. But that isn't it, exactly. The condemner and the condemned. The executioner; the blade; the last-minute reprieve; the gasping breath and the rolling sky above you and the thank you, thank you, thank you, God. Love: It will kill you and save you, both.
Sometimes I feel like if you just watch things, just sit still and let the world exist in front of you—sometimes I swear that just for a second time freezes and the world pauses in its tilt. Just for a second. And if you somehow found a way to live in that second, then you would live forever.
Title: Dark Inside.
Author: Jeyn Roberts.
Opinion: HOLY FISH IN BUCKETS! This had to be one of the BEST Post-Apocalyptic books I've ever read! (not that I've read hundreds, mind you..) I loved everything about this book; the gore, the characters, the plot, the cliffhanger! I'm finding it hard to express how much I loved this book..
The nothingness. No fire trucks, ambulances, police cars. No people, cars, steroes, televisions, computers. All the things we use to replace the silence of loneliness. All the distractions we buy that fill up the empty voids inside our souls. It's all gone.
It'd been raining for a week and there was still no sign of it giving up. The clouds were fat and gray, the land pregnant with swollen tears.
Title: My Soul To Take.
Author: Rachel Vincent.
Opinion: Wow. That's all I can say about this book. It's a completly amazing book with such an original storyline, It kept me in suspence throughout most of the book. I was constantly questioning aspects of the book and I loved all the characters. They were all so well developed and it was a great read that I found really hard to put down. I like me some Todd. ;)
Nash shrugged and frowned, like he didn’t understand what I was getting at. Or like he wanted to change the subject. “We have stuff in common. He knows how to have a good time. And he goes after what he wants.” He could easily have been describing my father’s German shepherd. As could I, when I replied, “Yeah, but once he gets it, he’ll just want something else.”
Uncle Brendon’s face went from tomato-red to nuclear countdown in less than a second.
“Hello?” I croaked, sounding as alert as a bear in January. And almost as friendly.
