Hey book nerds! :D Today I'm going to be sharing with you some of my favourite books of 2013! :) I have read so many amazing, wonderful and fantastic books this year, so it's going to be hard just choosing a few. However, I have also read quite a few books this year that I didn't like... I always feel very disappointed when I dislike a book, because I try really hard to like as many as I can!
Unfortunately, I'm only human (well, mostly) and I just can't like everything. I'm a picky and fussy reader and a huge critique when it comes down to it. :) I'm also a very emotional reader; the tiniest thing in a book can set me off crying for prolonged minutes at a time. This especially happens when I'm really engaged in the story and love the characters. (Also, you can add Animals into this as well!)
Please excuse the excessive use of Snape GIF's, this is the only time of the year I feel okay with posting them to relay everything I'm feeling! :P Well anyway, I hope you'll all enjoy my list for this year - I read 100 books - and completed my Good Reads reading goal for the year, so it's extra exciting. :D I hope you all have a wonderful new year, and start 2014 with a bang! :D Maybe you'll be as agreeable with my list as Snape is here. Who knows? ^.^
Favourite Books Of 2013
Title: Crash Into You.
Author: Katie McGarry.
Opinion: I read the first book, Pushing The Limits, in this companion series earlier this year and I adored it. I then read the second, Dare You Too and I thought it was just as fantastic. And then more recently I picked up Crash Into You – my god, it was incredible! Don’t get me wrong, I’m in love with all of them as Katie McGarry’s writing is beautiful and flawless, but I have a feeling that this one may be my favourite!
Maybe this is what happens when you fall in love. On the outside a lighter is nothing amazing, but it holds all the ingredients that can create something wonderful. With a few pushes in the right direction, you can inspire something so brilliant that it pushes back the darkness.
"I don’t want to be without you. I like who I am with you, and I don’t want to go back to who I was before."
Title: Easy.
Author: Tammara Webber.
Opinion: There are so many emotions swirling around inside my head right now. This book was absolutely incredible, with a couple with so much chemistry, you can almost feel it radiating off the page. Beautifully written, wonderful characters, a fantastic plot - go read it now!
He swallowed, closing his eyes and inhaling slowly. I knew he would be all rational and do-the-right-thing and he would push me away again, and I was determined not to give him that chance. But then his eyes flashed open and he said, "Fuck it," pushing me against the door, slamming his forearms on either side of my head and kissing me more forcefully than I’d ever been kissed.
"Choosing to be with you, isn't a difficult decision, Jacqueline...It's easy. Incredibly easy."
Title: Beautiful Disaster.
Author: Jamie McGuire.
Opinion: I was a little sceptical about starting this book at first, but all those feelings vanished as soon as I got a chapter or two into this book. The characters are amazing and really well-developed and the romance takes its time and grows slowly - which I loved - and it's definitely NOT an insta-love book.
"You can’t tell me what to do anymore, Travis! I don’t belong to you!" In the second it took him to turn and face me, his expression had contorted into anger. He stomped toward me, planting his hands on the bed and leaning into my face.
"WELL I BELONG TO YOU!" The veins in his neck bulged as he shouted, and I met his glare, refusing to even flinch. He looked at my lips, panting. "I belong to you."
"I knew the second I met you that there was something about you I needed. Turns out it wasn’t something about you at all. It was just you."
Title: Wait For You.
Author: J. Lynn.
Opinion: For some reason this book reminded me of Beautiful Disaster (or the other way around, not sure!), I think it’s because they both have similar plot lines. But either way, this book was incredible and I absolutely adored it! J. Lynn's writing is beautiful and completely flawless and the romance was fantastic and very swoon-worthy!
"Fuck, Avery. You think I don't want you? There's not a single part of you that I don't want, you understand? I want to be on you and inside of you. I want you against the wall, on the couch, in your bed, in my bed, and every fucking place I can possibly think of, and trust me, I have a vast imagination when it comes to these kinds of things. Don't ever doubt that I want you. That is not what this is about."
People got out of the way for Cam. He was like a hot Moses, parting a sea of drunk college students.
Title: Pretty Girl Thirteen.
Author: Liz Coley.
Opinion: This book was really phenomenal and unique, Liz Coley manages to write the story with such detail and accuracy and emotion that it will leave you speechless. I enjoyed this book so much, I thought my mum would love it as well – she ended up buying her own kindle copy and thought it was fantastic as well. As you can see, it’ll appeal to young-adults and adults!
"Do you want to put up in a hotel for a few days so they can’t stake out on your front lawn?" Mom laughed wickedly. "I’ll set up the lawn sprinklers. Let’s see them try." She would, too. I could see her turning the hoses on all their expensive video equipment.
Angie rubbed her face into Mom’s shoulder. "Do you think I’ll ever remember?"
For a long moment, Mom was silent. Angie pulled back and caught the tortured expression on her face, the mourning in her eyes, a split second before she fixed her expression.
Finally, Mom answered. "For three long years, all I’ve wanted was to know what happened to you. Now ... I don’t honestly know if I want you to remember."
Title: Wither.
Author: Lauren DeStefano.
Opinion: This book was fantastic! It has a really unique concept and plotline and I found it extremely hard to put down. It's really different from every other dystopia/post-apocalyptic novel that I've ever read and Lauren manages to create a world you can't help but be absorbed in. I loved this book so much and can't wait to read the sequel!
Eventually I realize that I am holding on to him just as tightly as he holds on to me. And here we are: two small dying things, as the world ends around us like falling autumn leaves.
"I'll tell you something about true love. There's no science to it. It's as natural as the sky."
Title: Vampire Academy.
Author: Richelle Mead.
Opinion: This book was incredibly sexy and really awesome and funny at the same time. I expected to hate Rose, the main character - mainly because she's so full of herself. But as I read more and more, I realised it's just part of who she is, she's just a really confident person. I have so much love for this book, and I can't wait to continue on with this series!
The only thing better than imagining Dimitri carrying me in his arms was imagining him shirtless while carrying me in his arms.
"You…you got rid of that dress fast," I pointed out between heavy breaths. "I thought you liked it."
"I do like it," he said. His breathing was as heavy as mine. "I love it." And then he took me to the bed.
Title: Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side.
Author: Beth Fantaskey.
Opinion: I thought this book was really, really fun and interesting. I had a great time reading and I was constantly laughing too! It was really well written, beautifully done and I had to pick up the sequel and have it in my collection right away!
"American women. Why do you all want to be nearly invisible? Why not have a physical presence in the world? Women should have curves, not angles. ...One should never confuse fashionable with beautiful. ...Eat. Be happy to have curves. A presence."
"Where do you come from?" Frank challenged, puffing his chest, a little bolder now that he could breathe. "Some of us are starting to wonder."
"I come from civilization," Lucius retorted. "You wouldn't be familiar with the territory. Now pick up the books."
Title: The Immortal Rules.
Author: Julie Kagawa.
Opinion: I’m finding it extremely hard to get across how much I loved this book, and its sequel The Eternity Cure. It has such a unique, different and interesting take on Vampires and the post-apocalyptic world that it made me speechless. Let's just say I thought it was extra-ordinary!
"You are a monster." Kanin’s deep voice droned in my head again, as I forced myself to move, to walk away. "You will always be a monster, there is no turning back from it. But what type of monster you become is entirely up to you."
I wasn't thinking of his blood, rushing just below the skin. I wasn't thinking of his heartbeat or his touch or the pulse at his throat. Right now, all I was thinking of was Zeke.
